Als Jay S. Miller den 2007er 'Selectus' im Jahr 2011 für Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate bewertet hat, gab er den Hinweis, der Wein dürfe ruhig noch ein paar weitere Jahre im Keller reifen. Genau das hat er getan und die Zeit hat ihm in die Karten gespielt. Der 'Selectus' ist jetzt vollendet gereift und auf dem Höhepunkt des Trinkgenusses. Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot und Petit Verdot haben hier perfekt zueinander gefunden, der Kalkstein hinterlässt seine markante, mineralische Spur und das Holz einen stimmigen Rahmen. Das ist herausragende Winzerkunst und das Ergebnis einer strengen Selektion. Entsprechend passend ist der Name 'Selectus'. Denn tatsächlich wird dieser Wein nur in den Jahren vinifiziert, die eine herausragende Qualität liefern, und im Jahr 2007 hat alles gestimmt.

The Bodega’s flagship is called Selectus: no 2006 was made but the 2007 Selectus was worth the wait. A blend of 30% Syrah, 20% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, it was aged for 18 months in new French oak. Smoky oak, pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, lavender, and assorted black fruits lead to a suave, dense, succulent offering that features outstanding volume and a 45-second finish. Give it another 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it from 2014 to 2027.

Sein neuester Bad Boy: Eine akribisch vinifizierte Top-Cuvée aus uralten Reben, die besten Syrah der nördlichen Rhône mit feinstem Grenache der südlichen Rhône vermählt. Und weil auf diesen Wein kein Spitzen-Appellations-Hut wie Châteauneuf-du-Pape und Côte Rôtie passt, kommt der Wein mit einem Côtes du Rhône-Ausweis daher. Und als sei das immer noch nicht genug des Regelbruchs, assembliert er auch noch verschiedene Jahrgänge.

A blend of the 2015 and 2016 vintages, the NV Côtes du Rhône S M checks in as the same equal parts Grenache and Syrah raised in tank and barrel. A huge nose of cassis, ground black pepper, garrigue, and olive tapenade gives way to a ripe, rounded, medium to full-bodied effort that has good acidity, building tannin, a seamless, light texture, and a great finish. It's a singular wine that has a big kiss of Northern Rhône Syrah with a touch of the rounded, sexy, opulent style of the south. It's going to drink nicely for a decade.

A blend of 50% Syrah from the Northern Rhône with 50% Grenache from the Southern Rhône, the NV Vin de France SM Second Edition is a fascinating wine, combining smoky, peppery, herbal notes with ripe black cherries. Full-bodied, plush and velvety, Vignon allows that it's "more 2016 than 2015" in style, but no matter how you characterize it, it's a lovely, complex wine.

This wine has seen several name changes (from Il Toro to RomiTòro and now Romitorio). The Castello Romitorio 2021 Romitorio is a hearty, full-bodied red blend with the muscle and power to mimic the beautiful Sandro Chia drawing of a raging bull on the front label. Fundamentally, this wine shows an all-Maremma spirit with rich concentration, big fruit weight and a whole range of savory and black fruit aromas. This wine is a delight to drink; it has a soft texture and is just raring to go straight out of the gate. This is one of Italy's ultimate value wines.

A fresh and crunchy red with dark cherries, currants, crushed flowers and a little bit of chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied. So lively and bright with textured, chalky tannins. Attractive juiciness with cherries and red spice undertones. Mineral and savory with some salinity at the end.

Dark ruby red. On the nose there are fruity notes of plum, blackberry, violets and light spices. The palate has a great texture, is fresh and juicy, very drinkable, slightly loose knit on the finish.

This here is very fine Shiraz. The 2020 Silence is Golden Shiraz is an elegant iteration of classical Barossa Shiraz; red ironstone inflections shape the feel of the tannins in the mouth. The fruit has silky flow and a floral character that made me swear there was a tiny hint of Viognier in there. Not so. It's just a beautiful wine, totally pleasurable and complex at once and well balanced. It matured for 18 months in wood. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under Stelvin.

The entry-level red 2022 Versos de Valtuille is a young wine that ages in 7,500-liter oak vats, as they'd rather have the wine there than leaving them empty. So, it's more than a young, fruit-driven and unoaked wine; it has depth and complexity and is very harmonious, with contained ripeness and 13.4% alcohol. It's juicy and balanced, young and tasty, with very fine tannins, round and elegant. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2024.

Seitdem Didier Marcelis nach einer erfolgreichen Karriere 2003 zurückgekehrt ist nach Saint-Estèphe, hat er Großartiges auf Sérilhan geleistet. Mit dem neuen Berater, dem berühmten Önologen Dr. Alain Raynaud ist der Wein ab 2019 noch einmal besser geworden und eine fantastische Offerte!

The 2019 Sérilhan is a total knock out. A rush of grilled herb, inky dark fruit, licorice and menthol notes hit the palate as the 2019 makes a strong opening statement. Deep and virile in feel, the 2019 has so much to offer. It is without question one of the sleepers of the vintage. In a word: impressive.

With a deep garnet-purple color, the 2019 Serilhan bursts from the glass with notes of ripe blackcurrants, boysenberries, black raspberries and cedar chest plus nuances of red roses, pencil lead and camphor. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with energy, featuring tons of crunchy black fruit and a finely grained texture, lifted by fantastic tension, finishing long and perfumed. Impressive!

A solid core of ripe fruit and spice here. It’s full-bodied, creamy and chewy. Pretty fruit at the end.
