Rhône-Genuss deluxe: Châteauneuf-du-Pape im 3er-Set entdecken

The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Pied De Baud offers a deeper purple/ruby hue as well as a ripe, more up-front bouquet of red and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, and more minerality, which comes through more on the palate. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and structured, give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following decade or more. This cuvée comes from the pebbly soils of the Pied de Baud lieu-dit, was partially destemmed, and is 80% Grenache and 10% each of Cinsault and Mourvèdre.

Ripe and fresh, with a racy edge to the mix of red currant, raspberry and damson plum coulis flavors, all supported by bright acidity and supple, fine-grained tannins, backed by floral mineral and rooibos tea notes on the mouthwatering finish.

A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault from a classic red clay and galets roulés lieu-dit, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Pied de Baud hints at roses and star anise on the nose, then adds raspberry and cherry fruit. Less ephemeral and silky than the other CdPs in this stable, it's still a solid offering, being medium to full-bodied, sturdy and intense, with a rich, velvety feel and long finish.

The classic 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape (75% Grenache, 11% each Syrah and Mourvedre, and the rest Cinsault, Vaccarese, and Counoise) is classic all the way, offering a bright, complex style in its darker cherry and mulberry-like fruits as well as peppery garrigue, spice, and leather. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's elegant and offers silky tannins, remarkable freshness, and a great finish. This is classic Châteauneuf du Pape all the way.

Incorporating 60% whole clusters this year, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Tradition is its usual assemblage of 75% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 3% Cinsault, Counoise and Vaccarese. Strawberry and raspberry fruit is enlivened by herbal, minty notes on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is a bit coarsely textured but intense and long on the finish.

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Côte Ronde is an even split of Grenache and Syrah, and as usual, was brought up all in new oak. It has an awesome nose of cassis, blackberries, graphite, ground pepper, and violets, with its new oak perfectly integrated into the wine. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has impressive tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish.

Deep ruby in colour with purple reflections and subtle brightening on the ochre rim. On the nose, an inviting bouquet, delicately floral with red wild berry nuances, a hint of coconut and light nougat. The juicy palate is silky, with an almost Burgundy-like texture, there is a pleasant sweetness and firm, ripe tannins with mineral notes on the delicate, lingering finish.
